What Is Naturalization?

Naturalization is the legal process of becoming a citizen if you don’t have a birthright claim to citizenship.

The naturalization process involves filing an application (Form N-400), attending a biometrics appointment, attending an interview with a USCIS officer, and taking an oath of allegiance to the United States at a naturalization ceremony.

How To Determine Citizenship Eligibility

You may be eligible for citizenship if:

  • You are 18 years or older (unless one of your parents is a U.S. citizen);
  • You are a lawful permanent resident (green card holder);
  • You have continuously resided as a lawful permanent resident for the 5 years prior to filing Form N-400 (or 3 years if you are married to a U.S. citizen);
  • You have been physically present in the U.S. for at least half of that period;
  • For the last 3 months, you have lived in the USCIS district where you are applying for naturalization
  • You have demonstrated good moral character in the years leading up to your application
  • During your naturalization interview, you can demonstrate basic knowledge of U.S. civics and proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English (unless you are exempt due to a disability or a certain number of years of residence in the U.S.)

How The Fleischer Law Firm LLC Can Help

At The Fleischer Law Firm LLC, we can help you assess your eligibility before applying. We can also help you submit a compelling application backed by substantial evidence, which is what you will need to complete this process without any issues or delays. Finally, we can help you prepare for (and even accompany you to) your naturalization interview.

*Given the volume of inquiries the Firm receives, the Firm cannot guaranty it will consult with every possible client or evaluate every potential client’s matter. Moreover, a case evaluation or case consultation does not mean the Firm will provide a potential client with actual legal advice on a matter and does not create an attorney-client relationship. A free consultation or free evaluation is intended to enable the Firm to understand the nature of a potential client’s matter and to inform the potential client if the Firm will consider representing the potential client in connection with the matter. Before the Firm can provide legal advice to any person or entity, and before an attorney-client relationship is formed, the Firm must have a signed fee agreement with a client setting forth the Firm’s scope of representation and the fees that will be charged.
